Summer, Year 756 of the New Age
Windborne, The Point

Gia POV

“Hold on, joey, you’re gunna be alright. You’re gunna be okay,” the large doe cooed. Gia chuckled under the breath as she watched the fawnling drag away what looked to be the lifeless carcass of her most recent victim. Wickedness and joy brimmed the dark doe’s eyes as she cantered toward the nearest water source to hide the evidence, a gleeful smile lined her stained lips. Blood trickled slowly out her her open wounds. The smell of iron, predominant in her nostrils. The ocean drew into view quite quickly.

She slid to a stop, head cocked slightly to the side and her eyes glazed over. She stared longingly across to the glossy surface of the abundant ocean with malice her gaze. The near silence was a gateway for her thoughts. A faint humming noise rang through the air as the cicadas chirped. Although this would annoy most, it was a comforting norm in Gia’s ever changing world. A guttural chuckle escaped through closed lips as she scanned the horizon. The last of the sun’s rays peaked through the darkening clouds, illuminating her pale coat ever so slightly. A soft breeze ruffled her cropped mane, blowing strands into her face. She drew her tongue slowly over her sharp teeth, fur and blood intertwined, She whispered words unknown as she weaved between trees to get to her favorite look out point. Humming broke the silence as the doe slowly made her way through the underbrush. The sound both beautiful and terrifying in it’s own twisted nature.

Gia raised her nose, breathing in the crisp ocean air. Her eyes widened as a new smell wafted into her blood red nostrils. A smell of fermented herbs and testosterone. “It looks like we have some company.” She said under the breath in singsong as she whipped her head around to try to see if she could spot the guest. Her amber eyes scanned the forest to no avail. Pricking her ears, she could faintly hear the sound of sand being crushed under cloven feet. A quiet voice whispered to himself that it was alright to be alone. With that Gia picked up her humming again as she stalked her way towards the source of the sound.“It’s show time”

Legeónas POV

He was never alone, not for real, and that he loved. Even though he had found that many others thought this feature of his to be quite strange, Legeónas appreciated it. He appreciated his friends who kept him company when no one else would listen to him. He appreciated his guides who would tell him when he was doing the wrong thing. He appreciated his companions who would give him hints on how to live life in general. And on a night like this one, when the wind was empty of anyone’s scent but for the mighty ocean that bowed before his hooves, he appreciated both an ear to listen to, and a voice to hear.

“I still don’t understand why they are so violent.” The small stag mused - as anyone listening would think - to himself. “Who darling? The stags?” He dipped his head in reply to the soft, feminine voice that spoke gently from within his mind, unheard by any others around. “They always fight and are so cruel. They hurt each other just to be with the does.” He paused for a moment, his child-like mind pondering over other thoughts as well. Soft blue eyes looked out at the setting sun and he was easily distracted from his own conversation until a soft, masculine voice cut in. “My child, there are things we will never understand. But as long as you avoid violence, you needn't worry about that of the others.”

As usual, his friends were right - something he had come accustomed to, and even come to rely on this fact. Were it not for them, who knew where he would be at the moment.
The waves reached higher up the sandy beach, kissing his cloven hooves as he stood perfectly still. Legeónas let out a light chuckle as he glanced down at the water as if it were his best friend. “I just leave when they are mean.” He reasoned casually as he watched the waves dance up and down the beach, wiping away all evidence of any other animals having tread over the sand, as if cleaning the slate so that the world could start anew in the morning. “I don’t mind being alone.”

“You are never alone.” Was the reassuring reply of several voices, singing gently in a comforting chorus as the ocean played the soothing tune he loved so dearly. Legeónas smiled gratefully. He knew he was never alone, and that was one thing he could always say. No matter what, he would never be alone. This fact comforted him as he watched the last rays of the setting sun slowly disappear behind the blackening ocean, waving goodnight to the world.

General POV

Gia stepped lightly onto the warm sand, trying not to make a sound. The silhouette of a stag loomed in front of her. “You are not alone young one.” she cooed calmly. A mothering tone resonated in her throat. Something was off about her voice when she spoke. A subtle darkness lingered.

That wasn’t right… that voice, it didn’t belong. His friends were all so kind and gentle, but this, this was different, very different. Just the way they spoke sent a chill down his spine, the tip of his tail twitching in discomfort. “No darling. That wasn’t us.” Assured one. “Look behind you, son.” Look behind him? But no-one was there right? With a gentle nod Legeónas turned around, giving a reserved yet friendly smile when he saw the doe, though it was quickly replaced by one of concern when his light eyes noticed the wounds littering her coat. “We’re sorry. We didn’t realize you were there.”

Gia let out a laugh, losing whatever innocence she was playing. “We? I only see one of you.” Her fangs dripped with blood as she spoke sending some down her chin. “What is a big, manly stag like you doing all alone here? You do know that it is dangerous to walk alone at this time.” A sinister chuckle formed in her throat as she slowly made her way closer to the stag. Her eyes twinkling with the opportunity arising .

Legeónas long, dark ears flopped to the side when she laughed quite out-rightly. It wasn’t a reaction he wasn’t used to, but it didn’t mean he wasn’t hurt a little bit every time. “Don’t let it get to you my sweet. Fawns find it hard to accept things they are not used to.” The gentle encouragement allowed him to straighten his stance some, returning to her a once more friendly smile. “We would rather be alone than at the herd during rut season.” He explained simply, blue eyes glistening with the innocence of a young child. “We like to avoid the violence.”

‘Avoid the violence...well you are messing with the wrong doe.’ She smiled at the stag, lupine teeth visible out of the side of her mouth. “Violence is the spice of life. Isn’t it.” Gia let out a wicked cackle as she stumbled close to him. “Would you grace me with your name?” a gamey scent wafted out her her mouth unconsciously.

The spice of life? How could that be so? It was more like a dangerous fire in his mind. Legeónas shook his head lightly. “Well… if it is…” He blinked curiously, admittedly still pondering on the idea. “Then we don’t like spice.” He gave a sweet, sheepish grin, almost seeming to shrug off the idea so he could go on to the next topic. Ah, his name, that he could do. He dipped his head in a polite bow. “A pleasure to meet you, we are Legeónas.”

She pursed her lips as she draped her tail over her back seductively. She leaned into his ear. “The pleasure is all mine.” Ket’s blood slowly trickled down his face ,unknown to her.

His ear flicked toward her voice as he blinked, not sure what to do next. He didn’t understand why she had to stand so close to him just to speak. Was there someone she didn’t want to hear her? He couldn’t help but let his eyes scan the area once quickly. The strange feeling of something wet yet sticky making its way down the crease of his face brought his attention back though and he naturally shook his head in attempt to get it off. He looked over at the doe, having to pull his head back some in order to see her, and his eyes grew just a bit wider. How had he not noticed the blood on her mouth? “Are you alright, miss?”

She chuckled darkly. “Oh I’m fiiiiine. Just fine.” she bit her lip trying to hold back the laughter. Her eyes ablaze with bloodlust. “Who is this ‘We’ you speak of?” she asked, trying to hide the hunger in her voice.

“We?” He asked, not sure what she meant at first. “She asks about us.” He was gently reminded, making him nod his head slightly, glad he knew what she was talking about now. “We is… or are… well us.” It seemed no matter how many times he tried to explain, finding the words to do so never got easier. “They are my friends. But you can’t hear them.” He gave another attempt, proud that it sounded better than the first.

She was not expecting that. “...They are in your head? Interesting. She said in singsong as she slowly circled the stag.

He watched her as she circled him, not sure what he thought about that idea. His tail wrapped closer to his body as if seeking protection between his legs. As his eyes followed her, he once again noticed the blood both on her body and even on her mouth. That shouldn't be right… right? “Miss, we’re certain something mustn't be right. Why is there blood on your mouth? And your wounded? Did something happen?”

She stopped. “There is still blood on my mouth? Pity I thought that I cleaned most of it off on Ket’s dead body…” she whispered to herself., forgetting how close she was to the stag.

“Dead body?” Legeónas whispered in a sharp, surprised tone as he stumbled a few quick steps away from her. He shook his head, trying to relax. He probably heard her wrong, that was all. But the blood… “Run!” They all began to chide like they were cheering, though the urgency was far greater than any cheer he’d heard. Running from a doe didn't sound polite… no, it wasn't polite, but at the moment, manners was not high on his list of priorities. With his head low he quickly backed away from her, eyes looking about as he searched for a good place to run for. Anywhere but here right?

“Oh great, I have said too much. just need to dispose of you as well. No biggie.” Her delicate head twisted towards her bloody chest, a smile curling onto her stained lips. The forest loomed behind her: a beacon of subtle safety. Her smile deepened as her tail erupted in blue flame. “Feel free to scream. The sound soothes me.”

Legeónas’ blue eyes widened as they reflected the flames. Fire… or, it looked like fire. But no, it was blue. Fire wasn't supposed to be blue. Wait a minute, he was missing something wasn't he… oh right, dispose of him?!! “Run! Run now! RUN!” There was no denying what he was supposed to do anymore. With a high pitched whimpering sound he swung around on his haunches, pushing off into the sand as he took off down the beach. Anywhere but here!

Gia let out a wicked cackle. “Ah ah ah. Not so fast. “ She kicked at her tail, sending blue flame to the very conveniently placed driftwood around the running stag, setting it ablaze. “We could have done this the easy way.” She exclaimed as she walked toward the trap shaking her head slowly.

Legeónas came to a sliding stop, sand spurting all about, kicked up by his hooves which quickly turned him around to face the approaching doe. No, no, no. This wasn't right. This had to be a dream… He backed slowly away from her, the end of his tail being singed by the fire, bringing a surprised yelp form his throat. No… not a dream. “P-p-please…” He looked around for a way out, ears staying focused on the doe as he curled his tail underneath him, backing as far from her as he could.

She lept into the fire gracefully. “Oh you Windborne’s. Always pleading for your life.” She walked up to the shaking stag. “Now, since I am a good soul, you can choose how you want me to end your pathetic little life.” She smiled , lowering her gaze.

He was now cowered so low that his chest grazed the sand below him as he looked up at the doe with wide eyes. “But… we don’t want our life to end.” He glanced around once more. There had to be an opening in the fire somewhere. Nothing… maybe he could jump it. He might get burnt, but it would probably be better than sticking around.

“Awe that is just too bad little one.” She she yawned ,exposing her large fangs. “I don’t think that you should worry much. I am only going to rip your throat out and play sweet music on your exposed intestines.”

“No!” That was sick… it just wasn't right. What kind of Fawn would even think such things? Could she even be called a Fawn? Suddenly he swung around and with all his strength centered into his hind legs he leapt over the flames and took off into the forest.

Gia’s eyes widened in horror. He knew too much. He knew FAR too much! She had to leave. She had to leave Windborne RIGHT now! With a hiss, she stomped out all the fire and galloped off into the night with a shriek.
