The cold air lay thickly around the dark woods as winter had tightened its already firm gasp on the land. Heavy wind lifted the newly fallen snowflakes off the frozen ground and whipped them into tiny spirals as the incandescent moonlight trickled downwards from  treetops. It danced gleefully off of the icicles that dangled from the branches overhead causing light to cascade through the bare trees. They twinkled as though with the excitement of the ever present storm, illuminating the world with a soft blue glow. Though the moon was setting, it remained powerful and bright as the west basked in its radiance.  The harsh weather swirled around the icy landscape with an air of elegance, twisting the ice crystals gracefully with each whisper of wind. The world was silent yet evermore alive. There was a great beauty in the snow but also a great danger however both seemed to work as one. They moved in sync, one following another, alternating the role of leader mindlessly between the two.

A young colt walked through the mist of ice and snow as the darkness sucked him in. Every sound was amplified and altered as his made his way through the trees blindly. His senses deceived him every way he turned. His footfalls were muffled by the snow that surrounded his location. He was alone, or so he thought. A quiet laugh echoed in the night sky. Waves a fear washed over him as he continued through the abyss. He turned his eyes to the east to see a little flame flickering in the distance, piercing the darkness.  He hastily made his way to the light. It floated there, alone over the frozen lake. Crion looked at it with confusion and hope. “Hello? Is anyone there?” His meek voice called out to the empty landscape. The trees seemed to melt away and he stood there, alone in the dark. The flame neared and his vision became slightly less hazy.  A familiar voice wrapped around the colt. “Hush now Crion, this is no time to show weakness, for you are not alone in these dangerous woods.” It started to swell and soon after the sound of hooves clattered on the lake. A large pale doe came into view, a wicked smirk on her face. Her toothy grin made it all the more clear who she was.

“Mother?”  The fawn called out, trying to make sense of the situation. He moaned quietly with fear. The doe looked to his face with malicious glee. “Your Mother isn’t here anymore young one.” A dark chuckle rumbled in her chest as she started to advance on him, her eyes growing increasingly void of a soul. Her fangs started to protrude from her lips whilst her feet began to melt away. The colt widened his eyes in horror as he started to back away from the creature. He tried to sound confident in his words; however his fear dripped through the cracks in his voice. “Who are you?” He received no answer as the doe began to laugh maniacally. The sound chilled his bones and caused the ice around him to crack. “I said ‘WHO ARE YOU?!” She narrowed her piercing eyes of ember, burning Crion’s soul with each look. Fiery wings erupted into the air as the pale doe spoke with words eerily clear. "I am fire and the bringer of death. Fear me and no other." Just as she uttered her last words, the ice gave way and down he sank.

Poor Crion, away from his scary mother and she still haunts his nightmares.

Sorry for the suckish story, I literally jotted down whatever came to mind at the moment.

I am so uber proud of the drawing however!
I HIGHLY recommend to enlarge the piece as there are many little details that are hidden due to it's enormous size.
